We take your patient’s privacy very seriously. The Vascular Health Promotion Network's personal health information privacy policies are governed by the requirements as set out in Ontario's Personal Health Information Protection Act(PHIPA) and the United States' Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)

Health care professionals have access only to their own patient's personal health information, and this is based on the role that they play in the management of their patients. This management concept is driven by PHIPA, and is known as "role based access". Role based access ensures that health care professionals enjoy varying degrees of access to their patient's personal health information based on their health care provider role, with the expectation that the level of access granted is concordant with the level of access required to fulfill their job description. This ensures that the System discloses only personal health information that is reasonably necessary for each health care professional to fulfill their health care provider role.

The VHPN does not disclose personal health information to users who are not directly involved in your patient's care. You will not have access to patient's personal information if you are not directly involved in their care.

With your permission, the VHPN may disclose your patient's anonymized personal health information to researchers.
